jean alfred villain-marais, of his full name, was born in 1913 in cherbourg and died in 1998 in cannes. a well-known actor, he is also a draftsman, painter, or even sculptor who had in particular for friends pablo picasso and especially jean cocteau who introduced him to pottery and lithography. from 1976, he sold his painted works and pottery in a shop in rue saint-honoré (paris).

these two flower heads, made of anthropomorphic vases, immediately aroused our interest with their surrealist vein. the roses are there, as if rooted in the depths of these two faces, bringing them back to life, to the point of coloring the pupils. ⁣ they come from the jean marais museum in vallauris (now closed).
