born in 1930 in lwów and died in paris in 1996, roman cieslewicz is a franco-polish artist and graphic designer. in 1955 he graduated from the academy of fine arts in cracow.  ⁣He produced posters for the Polish state and the Communist Party before settling in Paris in 1963   with his wife, sculptor alina szapocznikow. roman cieslewicz then worked for magazines such as elle or vogue, and produced numerous posters for various events. he is particularly known for his posters produced for the Pompidou center from 1978 to 1983 with a rigorous typographical composition, largely inspired by his constructivist references in the text-image relationship.

as can already be seen in the festival du marais poster, the effectiveness of the visual message comes from a dynamic layout where emphasis is given to geometric shapes and pure solid color.

the marsh festival was created in 1962 by the engineer michel raude to save the marsh then threatened with destruction. inspired by the avignon festival, it offers live shows in the district's private mansions in order to make this heritage known.
